He Is Risen^(A)

28 Now ^(B)after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene ^(C)and the other Mary came to see the tomb. ² And behold, there was a great earthquake; for ^(D)an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone ^[a]from the door, and sat on it. ^3 (E)His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. ⁴ And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like ^(F)dead men.

⁵ But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. ⁶ He is not here; for He is risen, ^(G)as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. ⁷ And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed ^(H)He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”

⁸ So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.

The Women Worship the Risen Lord

⁹ And ^[b]as they went to tell His disciples, behold, ^(I)Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. ¹⁰ Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell ^(J)My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”

The Soldiers Are Bribed

¹¹ Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all the things that had happened. ¹² When they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, ¹³ saying, “Tell them, ‘His disciples came at night and stole Him away while we slept.’ ¹⁴ And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will appease him and make you secure.” ¹⁵ So they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.

The Great Commission^(K)

¹⁶ Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain ^(L)which Jesus had appointed for them. ¹⁷ When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some ^(M)doubted.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ^(N)“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. ^19 (O)Go ^[c]therefore and ^(P)make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ^20 (Q)teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am ^(R)with you always, even to the end of the age.” ^[d]Amen.

The Risen Christ, Our Hope^(A)

¹² Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? ¹³ But if there is no resurrection of the dead, ^(B)then Christ is not risen. ¹⁴ And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. ¹⁵ Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because ^(C)we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. ¹⁶ For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. ¹⁷ And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; ^(D)you are still in your sins! ¹⁸ Then also those who have ^[a]fallen ^(E)asleep in Christ have perished. ^19 (F)If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

The Last Enemy Destroyed

²⁰ But now ^(G)Christ is risen from the dead, and has become ^(H)the firstfruits of those who have ^[b]fallen asleep. ²¹ For ^(I)since by man came death, ^(J)by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. ²² For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall ^(K)be made alive. ²³ But ^(L)each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. ²⁴ Then comes the end, when He delivers ^(M)the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. ²⁵ For He must reign ^(N)till He has put all enemies under His feet. ^26 (O)The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.

¹⁴ Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He ^(A)Himself likewise shared in the same, ^(B)that through death He might destroy him who had the power of ^(C)death, that is, the devil, ¹⁵ and release those who ^(D)through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. ¹⁶ For indeed He does not ^[a]give aid to angels, but He does ^[b]give aid to the seed of Abraham.

⁴ Therefore we were ^(A)buried with Him through baptism into death, that ^(B)just as Christ was raised from the dead by ^(C)the glory of the Father, ^(D)even so we also should walk in newness of life.

^5 (E)For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, ⁶ knowing this, that ^(F)our old man was crucified with Him, that ^(G)the body of sin might be ^[a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. ⁷ For ^(H)he who has died has been ^[b]freed from sin. ⁸ Now ^(I)if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, ⁹ knowing that ^(J)Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. ¹⁰ For the death that He died, ^(K)He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, ^(L)He lives to God. ¹¹ Likewise you also, ^[c]reckon yourselves to be ^(M)dead indeed to sin, but ^(N)alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁹ then ^(A)the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, ¹⁰ and especially ^(B)those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. ^(C)They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of ^[a]dignitaries,

^8 (A)But you shall receive power ^(B)when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and ^(C)you shall be ^[a]witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and ^(D)Samaria, and to the ^(E)end of the earth.”

^8 (A)Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: ⁹ If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, ¹⁰ let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, ^(B)that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, ^(C)whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. ¹¹ This is the ^(D)‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ ^12 (E)Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
